About Me

avatarIt all began in 1986 when I was born. Few knew that night that someday, 22 years thence, I would be making mischief and running amok with my own space online. Nevertheless, here we both are – you the reader and me, the author, sending these words out to say the same thing each time they are read.

It is an interesting journey that led me here, to this website. It began with a blog, back in early high school, on the once-popular Xanga. Then, later in high school, there was an incarnation on Livejournal, like the Xanga, meant for personal friends. Still later I started one anonymously on Blogger, investing more of my own thoughts into it, being an unknown poster, than I did at the time to my friends. And these all served their purpose in this strange new world of the internet. Oddly, this journey of blogging brought me back around to trusting in actual relationships. And, in a roundabout way, to yoga, but that’s another story.

What, then, am I doing here? Well, I do not feel anymore that I need to blog in a desperate attempt to discover myself. My friends get to hear about that crap. But I do like having a place to posit my thoughts and photographs, where those I know can view them and discuss them with me. Friends I made in high school and college are scattered throughout the country, as are those odd acquaintances one makes through the blogosphere. I do like the sounding board from time to time. You are welcome to chime in, too, or to just read.

me with a cameraAs I alluded to, my greatest hobby is photography. If I could make a living doing it, I would do it in a heartbeat. I’ve put up here a little gallery here so I can display some of what I’ve done. I’m always (or at least on-again off-again) looking for an opportunity to display my work, so if you happen to be a gallery director and think I’m really phenomenal and want to negotiate a display, I’d of course love to hear from you. I also keep a flickr site, updated fairly regularly, as a sort of core-dump for my photographs ranging from forgettable to great.

I do a little bit of web-design in my spare-time. I like all sorts of design (thus the photographic love: composition, composition, composition), and this is one outlet for it. I’m developing on a Mac (gasp!) and do this in limited time: I try to make the site work well in Mozilla and Safari and IE, but IE obviously gets a bit short shrifted due to my work environment and time constraints (how long do I really want to spend on this thing after all?) – if you’re using Internet Explorer, please make sure you are upgraded at least to version 7. This entire website is a Wordpress instantiation, the theme designed by me from scratch. With the exception of the calendar/link/search/comment/key icons (courtesy FamFamFam), all the graphics are mine, made in photoshop, or taken with my camera. Oh, and the picture above of me taking a picture was taken by my friend Ron.

professional-looking with tieI recently graduated from college with a B.S. in computer science and a B.A. in linguistics (again with the liking design thing). My only temptation to go back is to get a Ph.D. in computational linguistics (or, if I really lose my mind, classical history – but don’t get me started on that tangent). I currently work for Microsoft as a tester.

So that’s me, and that’s the website. Hope you enjoy it and stick around.
